Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching - PAEMST
Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching
For over 35 years, the White House Office of Science and Technology has bestowed the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, (PAEMST ) upon STEM teachers across the country and in U.S. jurisdictions. Over 5,100 teachers have been honored by receiving PAEMST, the highest honors conferred by the United States government specifically for K-12 science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science teaching.
One of those teachers is Cicely Woodard (TN I 20171 Mathematics), who believes that the Presidential Award is incredibly meaningful. She shared "One of my students told me that learning to face challenges in my middle school mathematics class gave him the confidence to pursue a demanding career. Education equips students with essential critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills. The Presidential Award is an opportunity to celebrate teaching and learning that prepares students to live the lives of their dreams. I feel grateful and blessed to connect with and learn from such a prestigious group of dedicated educators."

Awardees serve as role models for their colleagues, inspire their communities, and demonstrate the leadership necessary to educate the future scientists and mathematicians of this country. While every educator may take a different approach in the classroom, the awards bring together teachers who share a common goal of preparing students to be the best they can be.

PAEMST awardees receive a trip to Washington, D.C., to celebrate their achievements; a certificate signed by the President; a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation (NSF); and the opportunity to build lasting partnerships with colleagues from across the nation. NSF administers PAEMST on behalf of The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP).
